Wine Industry / Trend DUMMY

More choice, more curiosity — and a new generation of wine drinkers is changing what ends up in the glass.

Malaysia may not be the first country that comes to mind when talking about wine culture, but things are moving. Independent importers, specialist wine shops and a growing number of wine bars are bringing lesser-known regions, smaller producers and more adventurous bottles to Malaysian drinkers.

It is no longer just about Bordeaux, Burgundy or the familiar Australian labels. Wines from Portugal, Austria, South Africa and emerging regions are finding their way onto shelves and restaurant lists.

At the same time, wine drinkers seem increasingly willing to experiment. Natural wines, unusual grape varieties and lower-intervention styles are becoming part of the conversation.

Does that mean Malaysia is becoming a serious wine destination?

Maybe. But first, let’s open another bottle and see where this goes.

Sip. Discover. Repeat.
